Job Summary

The Programme Leader will provide strong academic and administrative guidance for the university's nursing programs. This role involves guiding the design and delivery of nursing curricula, ensuring compliance with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) requirements, and serving as a supportive leader for students and staff. The position demands a proven ability to manage academic processes and foster partnerships to enhance the program's visibility and reputation.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Guide and coordinate the design, delivery, and continuous evaluation of both undergraduate and postgraduate nursing curricula.

  • Ensure full alignment with the Nursing Council of Kenya's (NCK) requirements, including curriculum standards and examination frameworks.

  • Monitor and enforce academic integrity protocols, including assessment moderation and second marking.

  • Serve as a supportive academic leader for nursing students, managing their performance and addressing complaints.

  • Contribute to lecture delivery, clinical supervision, and practicum coordination.

  • Lead the development of innovative initiatives such as e-learning platforms, outreach nursing programs, and new partnerships with health facilities.

  • Coordinate scheduling and logistical support for classes, clinical placements, and assessments.

  • Cultivate partnerships with hospitals, healthcare agencies, and alumni networks to support clinical placements and enhance program visibility.

  • Prepare and present comprehensive program reports on performance metrics and quality assurance to faculty governance bodies.

  • Market and promote the school's nursing programs both locally and internationally to strengthen its reputation and student recruitment.

  • Mentor and support junior staff, contributing to their professional growth and development.

  • Stay academically active through ongoing teaching, mentoring, and scholarly engagement.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Midwifery and a Master’s Degree in a relevant health-related field.

  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in an accredited nursing program, including at least 3 years in an administrative leadership role. A minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing and/or midwifery experience.

  • Scholarly Activity: Must provide evidence of scholarly activities, such as conducting research and publishing articles in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Registration: Must be registered and licensed with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) and be in good standing.

  • Skills: Proven experience in curriculum implementation, examination administration, and staff supervision. Competence in budget management, faculty development, and fostering university-community partnerships.

  • Leadership: Strong leadership, communication, people management, and organizational skills.

  • Resource Mobilization: Experience in securing grants and leading academic development projects.

  • Values: A demonstrated commitment to the university's mission, vision, and core values.
