Job Summary

The Principal Tutor will serve as the academic and administrative head of the School of Nursing, responsible for overseeing the curriculum, managing staff, and ensuring compliance with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) standards. This role requires a strong leader with a minimum of two years of teaching experience and one year of clinical experience, a passion for mentorship, and a commitment to academic excellence.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee the delivery of nursing courses in line with approved curriculum and NCK standards.

  • Ensure full compliance with all NCK and Ministry of Education regulations.

  • Monitor and maintain high academic and professional standards in teaching and clinical practice.

  • Manage and mentor all nursing tutors, clinical instructors, and support staff.

  • Monitor student performance, discipline, and professional conduct.

  • Liaise with hospitals and healthcare facilities to secure and supervise clinical placements.

  • Provide academic guidance, career advice, and mentorship to students.

  • Ensure clinical training sites meet the required standards for nursing practice and learning.

  • Maintain accurate records of academic activities, examinations, and NCK compliance documentation.

  • Represent the School of Nursing in various institutional committees, NCK meetings, and professional forums.

  • Foster relationships with alumni, healthcare partners, and the local community to enhance the school’s profile.

  • Coordinate student welfare matters related to academic and clinical training.

  • Actively promote the school's academic programs to attract prospective students.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Midwifery and a relevant post-basic specialty qualification.

  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in an accredited nursing program and 1 year of clinical experience.

  • Registration: Must be registered and licensed with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) and in good standing.

  • Skills: Proven experience in curriculum implementation, examination administration, and staff supervision.

  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership, communication, and people management skills.

  • Strategic Abilities: Competence in budget management, faculty development, and fostering university-community partnerships.

  • Values: A demonstrated understanding and commitment to Tangaza University's mission, vision, and core values.

  • Resource Mobilization: Experience in securing grants and leading academic development projects is essential.
