Job Purpose
The Theatre Nurse provides safe and effective perioperative nursing care by supporting surgical procedures through scrubbing, circulating, and recovery functions. The role ensures strict adherence to infection prevention protocols and patient safety standards, aligning with the hospital's strategic goals of improved clinical outcomes and surgical efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Perioperative Nursing Care: Deliver safe care by performing scrub, circulating, and recovery room duties in accordance with surgical protocols.
Theatre Preparation: Ensure the theatre environment, surgical instruments, and equipment are properly prepared to meet procedural safety requirements.
Infection Prevention & Control (IPC): Adhere strictly to sterile techniques and aseptic protocols to minimize surgical site infections.
Surgical Coordination: Coordinate effectively with surgeons and anesthetists to facilitate smooth procedures and minimize delays.
Patient Care: Manage pre-operative preparation and post-operative monitoring to promote safe surgical outcomes.
Documentation & Accountability: Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures, instrument counts, and incident reports.
Emergency Support: Maintain readiness to support emergency surgical interventions and respond to critical situations.
Quality Improvement: Participate in theatre audits and quality assurance initiatives to enhance surgical services.
Surgical Camps: Support the planning and execution of surgical outreach programs and camps.
Operational Excellence: Optimize theatre utilization and reduce turnaround times to enhance patient flow.
Qualifications & Requirements
Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (KRCHN / BScN).
Perioperative Nursing qualification is highly preferred.
Valid Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) practicing license.
Minimum 2–3 years’ experience specifically in theatre nursing.
Valid ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) and BLS (Basic Life Support) certifications.
Proficiency in theatre scrub and circulating skills.
In-depth knowledge of surgical instrumentation and sterile processing.
High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in emergency situations.
Strong teamwork, interdisciplinary coordination, and communication skills.
