Job Summary
The Clinic Nurse will be responsible for providing comprehensive general nursing care to patients presenting with diverse medical, surgical, obstetrics, gynecological, and psychiatric conditions. This role involves conducting systematic head-to-toe assessments, implementing written care plans, administering medications safely, assisting with complex clinical procedures, and driving clinic-based quality improvement (QI) projects while ensuring judicious resource utilization and accurate billing.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Assessment: Complete rigorous head-to-toe assessments and reassessments to identify and evaluate executive care needs.
Hemodynamic Monitoring: Carry out strict monitoring of vital signs, neurological responses, fluid statuses, and diagnostic evaluations.
Care Planning: Develop, execute, and monitor written individualized care plans, adjusting interventions based on patient responses.
Medication Safety: Safely administer medications, actively track patient responses, and report any adverse drug reactions immediately.
Clinical Procedures: Maintain advanced airway management (oxygen therapy, nebulization, suctioning), collect/label lab specimens, and assist physicians during clinic procedures.
Mental Status Exams: Perform standardized mental status examinations for psychiatric patients visiting the executive facility.
Meticulous Documentation: Document all assessment data, investigative results, multidisciplinary discussions, and patient interactions in a timely, accurate manner.
Emergency Intervention: Recognize pre-arrest or arrest states instantly, alert the clinic physician, and actively lead resuscitation measures.
Quality & Audits: Participate in clinic-based nursing education, quality improvement (QI) projects, spot checks, safety audits, and resource billing.
Operational Flexibility: Care for clinic equipment inventories and assist in other AKUH outreach clinics during times of low patient census.
Qualifications & Requirements
Registered Nurse (RN) Diploma or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from an accredited school of nursing or university.
Must hold a current, active practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
Minimum of three (3) years of continuous clinical experience specifically within medical-surgical nursing.
Demonstrated, evidence-based knowledge of current practices in general nursing within a busy outpatient setup.
Proven leadership, mentorship, and clinical instructing capabilities for junior nursing staff.
Exceptional customer care, communication, and interpersonal skills suited for an executive patient clientele.
