Job Summary

The Perioperative Theatre Technology Tutor will be responsible for preparing and delivering the theoretical and practical curriculum in Operating Theatre Technology (OTT). The instructor will lead classroom lectures, facilitate hands-on sessions in the clinical skills laboratory (covering aseptic techniques, autoclave operation, and surgical instrument setups), and grade student assessments in line with curriculum guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lecturing & Lab Training: Plan, coordinate, and deliver engaging lectures and practical demonstrations in Perioperative Theatre Technology.

  • Skills Lab Instruction: Mentor students on sterile techniques, patient positioning, surgical instrument identification, and CSSD decontamination standards.

  • Curriculum Alignment: Develop and update comprehensive lesson plans and practical logs in alignment with TVET and national regulatory guidelines.

  • Student Assessment: Formulate, administer, and grade continuous assessment tests (CATs), practical skills check-offs, and internal examinations.

  • Mentorship: Provide dedicated academic guidance, helping students build the professional discipline needed for live surgical environments.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Relevant Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Operating Theatre Technology (OTT), Perioperative Nursing, or a closely related clinical surgical discipline from a recognized institution.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively teach and relate with students and clinical staff.

  • Strong organizational, classroom-management, and lesson-planning capabilities.

  • Natural passion for teaching, mentorship, and driving student success.

Added Advantages

  • Direct, prior teaching or tutoring experience within a registered Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution in Kenya.
