Job Summary
The Clinical Officer – Kwale is responsible for coordinating and supervising field operations and clinical research activities at the Kwale study sites. This role involves overseeing study protocols, ensuring rigorous data collection, and maintaining the highest standards of Good Clinical Practice (GCP). The successful candidate will act as a bridge between the research participants, the Principal Investigator (PI), and various health stakeholders in Kwale County.
Duties & Responsibilities
Coordinate and supervise field collection teams and overall field operations within Kwale.
Oversee critical study activities, including chart preparation and the scheduling of protocol-specific medical procedures.
Support the Principal Investigator (PI) in the administration of informed consent in compliance with local regulations and GCP guidelines.
Ensure the training of clinical staff on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and study-specific protocols.
Maintain rigorous data collection standards, ensuring accurate data capture in eCRFs/CRFs and prompt resolution of discrepancies.
Monitor study compliance with protocols and conduct regular audits of study records and source documents.
Maintain essential study files and document all communication, protocol deviations, and adverse events.
Manage regulatory reporting processes with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and other investigators.
Liaise with sponsors, monitors, and the Kwale County Ministry of Health teams (CHMT).
Engage with Community Advisory Boards (CAB) and other partners to ensure community support for the study.
Prepare the site for monitoring and close-out visits through meticulous record-keeping.
Support field logistics, including the management of medical supplies and field reimbursements.
Troubleshoot site-specific issues and prepare comprehensive progress reports for the PI.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with patients, co-workers, and local physicians.
Ensure all clinical research activities uphold the highest ethical standards and patient confidentiality.
Qualifications & Requirements
Diploma in Clinical Medicine & Surgery or Community Health from a recognized institution (Mandatory).
Must be Registered with the Clinical Officers’ Council of Kenya (Mandatory).
Proven Proficiency in computer application skills for digital research data entry (Mandatory).
Experience in conducting clinical research trials with QA/QC activities is a significant added advantage.
Thorough understanding and experience working with the primary healthcare system.
Ability to read, understand, and implement complex clinical research documents and protocols.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to manage site-specific challenges.
Ability to prioritize tasks and meet multiple deadlines on concurrent study cohorts.
