Job Summary

The Clinical Officer (Maternity Reliever) is responsible for providing high-standard clinical assessments and treatments to patients within the Kakenya’s Dream programs. This role involves managing daily clinic operations, performing minor surgical procedures, and delivering health education to students while ensuring strict compliance with Kenyan medical protocols. The successful candidate will be a compassionate professional capable of maintaining clinical quality and patient confidentiality in a rural NGO setting.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct appropriate clinical assessments and prescribe treatments to all patients with the highest level of professionalism.

  • Facilitate the effective referral of patients requiring specialized or advanced medical care to higher-level facilities.

  • Deliver healthcare services with the highest standards of clinical quality in compliance with Kenya clinical guidelines.

  • Attend and actively participate in Continuous Medical Education (CME) sessions and staff training workshops.

  • Provide tailored health education and awareness sessions to Kakenya’s Dream school girls as assigned.

  • Carry out essential medical and minor surgical procedures in accordance with established national guidelines.

  • Ensure all clinic treatment rooms are adequately equipped with the necessary supplies and medical equipment at all times.

  • Manage clinic coverage during weekends and respond promptly to emergency cases at night when on call.

  • Ensure all patient records are accurately documented in the patient data system while upholding strict confidentiality.

  • Participate in monthly community program outreach activities to extend healthcare services to rural areas.

  • Uphold and promote the core principles of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and proper medical waste management.

  • Monitor the use of clinic resources to ensure efficiency and minimize wastage of medical supplies.

  • Collaborate with the school administration to ensure the physical well-being of the student population.

  • Prepare periodic clinical reports for the supervisor to track patient trends and supply needs.

  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Supervisor from time to time.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from a recognized medical training institution.

  • Must be a Kenya Registered Clinical Officer with the relevant regulatory body.

  • Must be active and currently listed on the Clinical Officers Council (COC) Retention Register.

  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience in a clinical or NGO setting.

  • Proven ability to perform clinical assessments and minor surgeries with high precision.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially when interacting with adolescent girls.

  • High level of integrity and commitment to patient confidentiality and medical ethics.

  • Ability to work in a rural setting and handle on-call emergency duties.
