Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Technologist III at Vihiga County Government is an entry and training grade for diploma holders. Working under the supervision of senior and experienced officers, this role is essential for performing a wide range of laboratory procedures, from specimen collection and analysis to result reporting and blood product management, contributing vital diagnostic information for clinical management within the county's healthcare system.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:
- Documenting working benches.
- Receiving and scrutinizing laboratory requisition forms.
- Prepping clients for collection of specimens.
- Receiving, collecting, labelling, and registering specimens.
- Disaggregating specimens for processing and analyses.
- Preparing reagents for laboratory tests.
- Examining specimens using various laboratory techniques.
- Writing and recording of results accurately.
- Dispatching the results for use in clinical management.
- Preparing stains for microscopic examination.
- Performing blood grouping tests.
- Issuing blood and blood products to peripheral health facilities.
- Storing blood products according to their specific requirements.
- Adhering to laboratory quality control and safety standards.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science or any other equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technician and Technologist Board (KMLTTB).
- Registration certificate issued by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technician and Technologist Board (KMLTTB).
- Valid practicing license from the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technician and Technologist Board.
- Certificate in Computer Application Skills from a recognized Institution.
