Job Summary

The Great Lakes Medical Centre is looking for a Cateress to manage and deliver high-quality food services within the hospital. This role requires a professional with a Certificate in Hospitality or a related field, along with a KCSE certificate and at least one year of experience. The successful candidate will be proficient in computer applications and possess excellent communication and teamwork skills, demonstrating a strong commitment to providing high-quality and nutritious meals.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals and special diets for patients, as prescribed by medical staff.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the hospital kitchen, ensuring efficiency and cleanliness.
  • Manage food inventory, including ordering, receiving, and proper storage of supplies.
  • Ensure strict adherence to food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards.
  • Supervise kitchen staff, if applicable, ensuring proper food handling and preparation techniques.
  • Maintain kitchen equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition and reporting any malfunctions.
  • Develop menus that are varied, appealing, and meet dietary requirements.
  • Monitor food waste and implement strategies for cost control.
  • Keep accurate records of food consumption, orders, and expenses.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to understand specific patient dietary needs.
  • Ensure timely delivery of meals to patient wards and staff dining areas.
  • Respond to feedback regarding food quality and service, implementing improvements.
  • Manage kitchen budget and resources effectively.
  • Participate in continuous training and development in food safety and nutrition.
  • Contribute to a positive and supportive environment for patients and staff.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Certificate in Hospitality or a certificate in any related field.
  • KCSE Certificate.
  • Working experience of at least 1 year.
  • Proficiency in computer application skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
