Job Summary
AIC Kijabe Hospital is seeking a Palliative Care Clinical Officer with a Higher Diploma in Palliative Care to provide specialized care. This role requires a professional with a Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery, along with a valid private practicing license and registration with the Clinical Officers Council. The successful candidate will focus on enhancing the quality of life for patients facing life-limiting illnesses.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide specialized palliative care services to patients with life-limiting illnesses.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans focused on pain and symptom management.
- Offer emotional and psychological support to patients and their families.
- Facilitate communication between patients, families, and the healthcare team regarding prognosis and treatment goals.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to ensure holistic patient care.
- Administer medications and perform procedures relevant to palliative care.
- Educate patients, families, and other healthcare professionals on palliative care principles.
- Assist in advance care planning discussions and documentation.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.
- Manage complex symptoms, including pain, nausea, dyspnea, and fatigue.
- Provide bereavement support to families.
- Adhere to ethical guidelines and professional standards in palliative care.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless transitions of care.
- Participate in continuous professional development and research relevant to palliative care.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Higher Diploma in Palliative Care.
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery or any other related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years related work experience.
- Possesses a valid private practicing license.
- Registered with the Clinical Officers Council (COC).
