Key Responsibilities
Anaesthetic Management:
- Administer anaesthesia to patients undergoing various surgical and medical procedures, ensuring the utilization of appropriate techniques based on thorough patient assessment.
- Continuously monitor patients throughout surgical procedures, proactively managing and effectively responding to any anaesthetic-related complications that may arise.
- Conduct comprehensive pre-operative evaluations to accurately determine suitable anaesthetic plans and ensure that informed consent is obtained from the patient.
- Provide thorough post-operative care, including effective pain management strategies and diligent monitoring of recovery from anaesthesia.
Theatre and Equipment Oversight:
- Supervise theatre staff to ensure efficient and safe operational practices within the surgical suite.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all theatre equipment, including their maintenance schedules and current working status, and promptly raise any requests for necessary repairs and maintenance.
- Effectively manage the inventory of anaesthetic medications and supplies, ensuring their availability and proper storage according to established protocols.
Emergency Response and Patient Care:
- Actively participate in emergency response teams for trauma cases and mass casualty incidents, providing critical anaesthetic support as required.
- Assist in the comprehensive management of critically ill patients across various hospital departments as needed, offering specialized anaesthetic expertise.
- Provide clear and informative health education to patients and their families regarding anaesthetic procedures and post-operative care instructions.
- Attend to minor Surgical cases and procedures referred to theatre, including esophageal foreign body removal, ear and nose foreign body removal, circumcisions, and excision of ganglions and lipomas.
Training and Continuous Education:
- Conduct effective on-the-job training sessions for medical staff, enhancing their knowledge and skills in essential anaesthetic practices.
- Participate actively in regular medical education meetings and workshops to stay updated on the latest advancements and best practices in anaesthesia.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Accurately and comprehensively document all anaesthetic procedures performed, patient responses observed, and any complications encountered during the process.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on theatre activities and anaesthetic services provided to the Medical Officer in charge.
Others:
- Perform other related duties as assigned within the scope of your professional practice.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery.
- Higher Diploma in Anaesthesia from a recognized medical training institution.
- Registration with the Clinical Officers Council of Kenya.

- Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Anesthetist in a busy hospital setting.
- Proficiency in administering various anaesthetic techniques and effectively managing related equipment.
