Job Summary

The Clinical Medicine Trainer will be responsible for delivering lectures and facilitating comprehensive learning sessions in clinical medicine units. This role involves designing curriculum support materials, supervising clinical attachments and simulation activities, and administering objective examinations in accordance with college regulations and Clinical Officers Council (COC) guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality lectures and facilitate competency-based learning sessions in assigned clinical medicine subjects.

  • Prepare comprehensive teaching work plans, including schemes of work and lesson plans, aligned with the approved curriculum.

  • Develop relevant curriculum support materials, lesson notes, and physical or digital learning resources.

  • Supervise student coursework, technical assignments, research activities, practical laboratory sessions, and hospital clinical attachments.

  • Coordinate, set up, and evaluate clinical practice and simulation activities, including Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs).

  • Set, administer, invigilate, and grade examinations or Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs) fairly.

  • Monitor, evaluate, and provide documented, timely feedback on student academic and clinical progress.

  • Mentor and guide students on professional medical ethics, healthcare trends, clinical safety compliance, and career development.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Medicine or equivalent from a recognized/accredited institution.

  • Must be a Registered and Licensed Clinical Officer with the Clinical Officers Council (COC).

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of clinical experience in a busy healthcare setting.

  • Proven skills in lesson planning, OSCEs, and clinical simulation training.

  • A Higher Diploma or clinical specialization (e.g., Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Anesthesia) is a distinct advantage.

  • Prior experience in teaching, academic mentorship, or clinical instruction is an added advantage.

  • Possession of a valid TVETA Trainer License (registration with TVETA) and a pedagogy training certificate will be a strong added advantage.

  • Excellent clinical, instructional, communication, and reporting abilities.
