Job Summary

The ECDE Care Taker is responsible for providing high-quality class teaching and facilitating holistic development for early childhood learners. This role involves organizing play-based learning activities, preparing professional records, and ensuring the physical and emotional safety of children within the school environment. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in nurturing the spiritual, moral, social, and mental growth of learners during their most formative years.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver effective class teaching tailored to the developmental stages of early childhood learners.

  • Organize and facilitate diverse play and learning activities to stimulate cognitive and physical growth.

  • Nurture the holistic development of learners, including their spiritual, moral, social, and emotional well-being.

  • Manage ECDE classes efficiently while maintaining high standards of classroom discipline and engagement.

  • Keep accurate professional and administrative records, including schemes of work and detailed lesson plans.

  • Maintain daily programmes of activities and up-to-date attendance registers for all learners.

  • Ensure the maximum safety and security of learners at all times while they are within the school premises.

  • Prepare and develop creative play/learning materials using locally available resources to enhance the curriculum.

  • Monitor and record the developmental progress of each child, providing feedback to parents and supervisors.

  • Identify children with special needs and recommend appropriate interventions or referrals.

  • Foster a clean, healthy, and inviting classroom environment suitable for young children.

  • Implement the approved ECDE curriculum in line with the Ministry of Education guidelines.

  • Coordinate with parents and the community to support the child’s learning and welfare.

  • Participate in school-based meetings and professional development workshops.

  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor to improve the quality of Early Childhood Education.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum grade of D+ (Plus) or KCE Division IV.

  • Certificate in Early Childhood Development Education offered by KNEC or the Ministry of Education.

  • Must be Registered by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

  • Possession of a valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the DCI.

  • A recognized certificate in computer proficiency from a reputable institution.

  • Strong passion for working with children and a commitment to holistic development.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in both English and Kiswahili.

  • Adherence to the values and principles of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
