  • Job Summary

    The Tutorial Fellow in the School of Clinical Medicine is responsible for supporting senior faculty in the delivery of high-quality medical education to undergraduate students. The successful candidates will be tasked with facilitating clinical tutorials, administering assessments, and contributing to the academic development of the department. This role offers an excellent pathway for aspiring scholars who are registered or registerable for a PhD to advance their careers within a research-intensive environment.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Adhere strictly to teaching requirements and instructional objectives as outlined in the Clinical Medicine curriculum.
    • Facilitate interactive tutorial sessions and practical demonstrations for students in both classroom and clinical settings.
    • Administer Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs) and maintain accurate records of student academic performance.
    • Participate in examination setting, ensuring all tests align with the university’s quality assurance standards and regulatory guidelines.
    • Supervise and invigilate internal examinations to ensure academic integrity and a conducive testing environment.
    • Mark and grade scripts promptly, providing constructive feedback to students to enhance learning outcomes.
    • Assist senior lecturers in conducting specialized medical research and publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals.
    • Mentor and advise students on academic progression, clinical ethics, and professional conduct in the medical field.
    • Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum review workshops, and university-wide academic committees.
    • * Collaborate with clinical staff at affiliated teaching hospitals to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
    • * Ensure compliance with the guidelines set by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) and other relevant bodies.
    • * Maintain an active pursuit of higher qualifications (PhD) to satisfy the university's career progression criteria.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    • Master’s Degree in a relevant field of Clinical Medicine or Health Sciences from a recognized and accredited university.
    • Bachelor’s Degree holders will be considered under special cases as outlined in the MKU Teaching Staff Appointments and Promotions Guidelines, 2020.
    • Must be registered (or registerable) for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or an equivalent Doctoral degree qualification.
    • Valid professional registration with the relevant regulatory body (e.g., Clinical Officers Council or KMPDC) where applicable.
    • Demonstrable passion for medical education, research excellence, and student mentorship.
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary academic team.
