Job Summary
The Laboratory Technologist will be responsible for ensuring the lab operates in full compliance with regulatory standards while performing a variety of diagnostic tests. The role requires a highly experienced professional with a Diploma or BSc in Medical Laboratory Sciences and a valid KMLTTB license. Key responsibilities include managing lab registration, coordinating procurement, implementing quality systems, and performing diagnostic testing across multiple disciplines.
Duties & Responsibilities
Ensure facility and professional registration with relevant authorities, including the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
Coordinate the procurement of laboratory consumables, reagents, and equipment, ensuring timely availability.
Implement and monitor quality systems aligned with ISO 15189 standards to ensure accurate and reliable results.
Perform diagnostic testing in various fields, including Haematology, Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, and Parasitology.
Maintain laboratory equipment, perform regular calibrations, and troubleshoot technical issues to minimize downtime.
Accurately document and report results in strict compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory standards.
Train and mentor staff on laboratory SOPs and biosafety protocols to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
Minimum Requirements
Diploma/BSc in Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognized institution.
Registered and licensed by KMLTTB (must be in good standing).
A minimum of 5 years of post-licensure experience in a busy hospital or diagnostic laboratory.
Experience in lab registration and procurement processes.
Knowledge of ISO 15189, quality control, and laboratory information systems.
Excellent communication, organizational, and vendor management skills.
Added Advantage
Experience in lab start-up or expansion projects.
Familiarity with sourcing and procurement of laboratory equipment.
