Job Summary
The Optometrist at Equity Afia in Voi will provide essential eye care services, conducting comprehensive eye examinations, diagnosing visual problems, and prescribing appropriate corrective measures. This role is crucial in promoting eye health and ensuring access to quality optometry services for the community served by Equity Afia.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive eye examinations to assess visual acuity, refractive errors, and ocular health.
- Diagnose
and manage common eye conditions and diseases. - Prescribe and fit eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids.
- Provide patient education on eye
care, proper use of corrective lenses, and preventive measures for eye health. - Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, including examination findings and treatment plans.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated patient care.
- Operate and maintain optometric equipment, ensuring proper functionality and calibration.
- Refer patients to ophthalmologists or other specialists when necessary for advanced medical or surgical interventions.
- Participate in community outreach programs to promote eye health awareness.
- Adhere to all established clinical protocols, patient safety standards, and infection control guidelines.
- Manage and maintain inventory of optical products and supplies.
- Provide patient counseling on various vision correction options and lifestyle adjustments for better eye health.
- Participate in continuous professional development activities to stay updated with best practices in optometry.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on optometric activities and patient statistics.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Diploma in Optometry.
- Licensed Optometrist with the Optometrists’ Association of Kenya.
- Minimum of one (1) year relevant experience.
- Proficient in computer applications.
- Good communication skills.
