Job Summary

KEMRI is offering an exciting Nurse Intern opportunity in Migori County for recently qualified and passionate nursing professionals. This internship provides invaluable hands-on experience in a research environment, focusing on maternal and child health. The intern will be integral to implementing study procedures, collecting data, maintaining records, and engaging with the community, all while adhering to good clinical practice. This is a chance to develop skills in human subjects research and contribute to vital public health initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain good clinical practice in a research environment, ensuring ethical and high-quality conduct.
  • Administer study survey tools accurately and efficiently.
  • Conduct consenting of study participants, ensuring they understand the study and their rights.
  • Conduct study procedures with the study staff, including but not limited to: anthropometric measurements, performing ultrasonography, and any other outcome measures as stipulated in the study Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Organize Continuing Medical Education (CMEs) in the study sites to enhance knowledge.
  • Work collaboratively with community health promoters and nurses in the Maternal and Child Health department to execute required study procedures.
  • Ensure proper record keeping and filing of study documents for data integrity and audit readiness.
  • Perform any other skills as deemed necessary by the study leadership, demonstrating flexibility and willingness to learn.

Vacancy Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Community Health Nursing and Midwifery (Mandatory).
  • Recently qualified, but not longer than 2 years after graduation or internship (Mandatory).
  • Valid practicing license that is up to date (Mandatory).
  • Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya (Mandatory).
  • Willing to live and work in Migori County (Mandatory).
  • Passionate about maternal and child health and community health nursing (Mandatory).
  • Willingness to learn and develop knowledge and skills on human subject’s research (Mandatory).
  • Must be able to work in a professional and ethical manner with competence, accountability, and integrity (Mandatory).
