Job Summary
The Driver will be responsible for providing safe and timely transportation for the research team and study materials to various field sites within Kisii County. This role involves ensuring the vehicle is well-maintained, properly documented, and operated in compliance with safety regulations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Safely transport the research team and all necessary study materials to various field sites and designated locations within Kisii County.
- Ensure the team arrives punctually for all scheduled meetings, community engagement activities, and data collection appointments.
- Perform thorough routine checks on the assigned vehicle, including inspecting tyres, brakes, fluid levels (oil, water, brake fluid), and the overall general mechanical condition to ensure roadworthiness.
- Proactively advise the Research Scientist/Study Coordinator when vehicle service is due and ensure the timely delivery of the vehicle for scheduled maintenance or necessary repairs.
- Ensure the vehicle always has sufficient fuel and maintain an accurate and up-to-date record of all fuel refills.
- Ensure the vehicle is consistently clean and well-maintained, both the interior and exterior, and always ready for use by the research team.
- Ensure that vehicle log sheets are accurately and completely filled out every time the vehicle is in use, documenting mileage, destination, and purpose of the trip.
- Promptly report any vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or any damage sustained by the vehicle to the supervisor.
- Ensure that the vehicle strictly complies with all relevant safety standards, is consistently roadworthy, and possesses all necessary and up-to-date documentation (insurance, vehicle registration, etc.).
- Ensure that the vehicle is securely locked and parked safely in its designated parking slots, and that the vehicle keys are returned to the study coordinator at the end of every trip.
- Maintain regular and clear communication with the study coordinator regarding the daily transportation schedule and any specific transportation requirements of the research team.
Minimum Requirements:
- A minimum of KCSE certificate or an equivalent qualification.
- Must possess a valid Kenyan driving license that is free of any endorsements or restrictions.
- Must have passed the required suitability test for drivers as administered by a recognized authority.
- Must possess a valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Kenya Police Service.
- Must have a willingness to live in Kisii County for the duration of the contract and be able to undertake extensive travel within the area to reach various field sites.
