Job Summary
The Clinical Officer will be responsible for taking patient history, conducting examinations, diagnosing and treating common ailments, providing guidance and counseling, referring patients to appropriate facilities, assessing and preparing medico-legal reports, coaching students, performing surgical procedures within their training, organizing health management teams, and collecting data for research within the health facilities of Nakuru County.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Taking patient history, conducting thorough examinations, arriving at accurate diagnoses, and providing appropriate treatment for patients with common ailments at both outpatient and inpatient health facilities.
- Guiding and counseling patients, clients, and staff on various health-related issues to promote understanding and adherence to health plans.
- Referring patients and clients to other healthcare facilities or specialists when their conditions require a higher level of care or specialized attention.
- Assessing, preparing, and presenting medico-legal reports as required, adhering to legal and ethical guidelines.
- Coaching and mentoring students who are on attachment at the health facilities, contributing to the development of future healthcare professionals.
- Carrying out surgical procedures based on their training and acquired skills, within the scope of their practice.
- Organizing health management teams and convening health management committee meetings to facilitate effective communication and coordination of healthcare services.
- Collecting and compiling data for research on various clinical service issues to contribute to evidence-based practice and service improvement.
Qualifications & Requirements
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Medicine from a recognized institution.
- A Certificate of Registration from the Clinical Officers’ Council of Kenya.
- A Valid Practicing License from the Clinical Officers’ Council of Kenya.
- A Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution.
