Job Summary

The Oncology Nurse will provide specialized, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care to oncology patients across the entire continuum of care. The position involves coordinating and executing complex systemic therapies, managing toxicities and side effects, providing vital family counseling, and rendering supportive palliative interventions in accordance with strict hospital protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Chemotherapy Administration: Safely mix, double-check, and administer cytotoxic drugs, biotherapies, and systemic oncology treatments via diverse venous access devices.

  • Symptom & Side Effect Management: Monitor, assess, and aggressively manage treatment-induced toxicities, including pain, nausea, neutropenia, and psychological distress.

  • Patient & Family Education: Act as the primary educator, offering comprehensive guidance on cancer treatment schedules, side effect prevention, home care, and dietary adjustments.

  • Palliative & Supportive Care: Deliver high-quality supportive care and compassionate pain management protocols to advanced-stage cancer patients, ensuring maximum comfort and dignity.

  • Clinical Monitoring: Continuously evaluate laboratory profiles (including complete blood counts and organ function panels) prior to therapy initiations, reporting anomalies immediately to the attending Oncologist.

  • Meticulous Documentation: Document all chemotherapy flows, drug volumes, patient tolerances, and multi-disciplinary interventions accurately on electronic medical records.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Higher Diploma in Oncology Nursing from a recognized and accredited training institution (Mandatory).

  • Diploma or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from a recognized medical training institution.

  • Fully registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).

  • Possession of a valid, active NCK Practice License specifically as an Oncology Nurse for the current year.

  • Current, valid professional certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

  • Minimum of one (1) year of active working experience specifically as an Oncology Nurse within a busy, reputable health facility.

  • Exceptional emotional intelligence, resilience, counseling abilities, and customer care skills.
