Job Purpose
The Nurse In-Charge will plan, organize, coordinate, and supervise inpatient and outpatient nursing services. The jobholder is strategically responsible for ensuring high standards of nursing care in strict alignment with hospital policies, procedures, quality regulations, and patient safety goals.
Key Responsibilities
Departmental Supervision: Oversee the daily operations, patient assignments, and clinical workflows of nursing personnel across designated units.
Quality Assurance: Ensure absolute adherence to the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) clinical guidelines, infection control protocols, and universal care standards.
Resource Optimization: Manage departmental medical supplies, specialized monitoring equipment, and consumables, minimizing wastage and ensuring constant operational readiness.
Workforce Scheduling: Develop staff duty rosters, manage shift handovers, and ensure an optimal nursing skill mix across shifts to guarantee safe patient-to-nurse ratios.
Staff Performance & Training: Conduct periodic performance reviews, identify technical training gaps, and champion continuous training and clinical mentorship for the nursing team.
Patient Experience: Monitor patient turnaround times, resolve escalated client or family grievances swiftly, and foster an environment rooted in dignity and respect.
Meticulous Documentation: Audit electronic medical records, incident reports, and nursing care charts to guarantee accuracy, compliance, and clinical accountability.
Qualifications & Requirements
Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN) from an accredited training institution.
Must hold a valid, active practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
Minimum of five (5) years of continuous clinical nursing experience, with a mandatory minimum of two (2) years served successfully in a supervisory, team leader, or in-charge role.
Current, valid professional certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) are mandatory.
Masterful clinical acumen, exceptional customer service benchmarks, and strong interpersonal skills.
Proven problem-solving capabilities with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) degree from a recognized university will be a distinct competitive advantage.
