Job Summary
The Clinical Officer (Pediatrician) will lead the diagnostic, therapeutic, and emergency care workflows for all pediatric and neonatal patients. The position involves managing specialized child health clinics, directing pediatric inpatient admissions, managing complex neonatal resuscitations, and ensuring strict compliance with national child healthcare guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Specialized Pediatric Care: Autonomously assess, diagnose, and treat complex pediatric illnesses, congenital conditions, and acute childhood infections.
Neonatal Interventions: Lead emergency neonatal resuscitations, monitor low-birth-weight infants, and manage specialized care workflows within the newborn unit.
Child Welfare Clinics: Oversee routine child development tracking, nutritional assessments, and the national immunization schedule (KEPI compliance).
Ward Management: Direct daily ward rounds in the pediatric inpatient unit, review treatment plans, and coordinate complex multi-disciplinary clinical interventions.
Family Counseling: Provide empathetic, thorough clinical breakdowns to parents and guardians regarding diagnosis, medication compliance, and home preventive care.
Accurate Documentation: Maintain meticulous, computerized, and physical records of patient medical histories, clinical logs, and progress summaries.
Qualifications & Requirements
Higher Diploma in Pediatrics and Child Health from an accredited medical training institution.
Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from a recognized institution (e.g., KMTC).
Must hold a valid, active registration and an active Practicing License from the Clinical Officers Council (COC) of Kenya.
Minimum of two (2) years of relevant working experience as a pediatric specialist operating within a busy, high-volume hospital setting.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with a natural ability to connect effortlessly with young children and anxious parents.
Exceptional crisis management capabilities with high clinical integrity.
