Job Summary

The Clinical Officer will manage general outpatient consultations, emergency medical treatments, and routine inpatient monitoring. The position involves conducting thorough physical examinations, making accurate clinical diagnoses, ordering and interpreting lab investigations, initiating appropriate treatment regimens, and performing minor surgical procedures as qualified.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Consultations: Conduct daily outpatient consultations, accurately diagnosing and managing a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions.

  • Emergency Response: Anchor the Accident & Emergency unit, executing rapid triage, administering emergency first aid, and stabilizing critical patients.

  • Ward Management: Conduct routine ward rounds for admitted patients, monitor vital signs, review treatment sheets, and coordinate with the nursing team for optimal care.

  • Minor Surgery: Safely perform standard minor surgical procedures (such as wound care, suturing, incision, and drainage) under strict aseptic techniques.

  • Patient Referral: Identify complex medical conditions requiring specialized care and coordinate timely, structured referrals to medical officers or specialists.

  • Medical Records: Maintain detailed, accurate, and confidential patient histories, physical findings, and prescription records on hospital data systems.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Medicine & Surgery from a recognized and accredited training institution (e.g., KMTC or equivalent).

  • Must hold a valid registration and an active Practicing License from the Clinical Officers Council (COC) of Kenya for the current year.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant working experience as a Clinical Officer operating within a busy, high-volume hospital setting.

  • Exceptionally strong clinical, diagnostic, and decision-making skills.

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal competencies, with an empathetic approach to patient care.
