Job Summary

The Clinical Officer at Penda Health will be responsible for rendering comprehensive, premium outpatient clinical services. This includes independent history taking, physical examinations, ordering targeted diagnostic tests, and interpreting results. The incumbent will execute minor surgical procedures, manage primary emergencies, and provide vital patient education, all while adhering strictly to Penda's developed, evidence-based clinical protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Comprehensive Consultations: Take detailed patient histories, perform thorough physical examinations, and prescribe correct, cost-effective treatments.

  • Diagnostics & Interpretation: Order necessary laboratory or imaging investigations, interpret results accurately, and explain the findings and subsequent treatment pathways clearly to patients.

  • Emergency & Referrals: Stabilize and manage acute emergencies presenting to the medical center and coordinate seamless external referrals for complex cases.

  • Minor Surgery: Perform basic minor surgical procedures safely in accordance with Penda’s clinic service schedules.

  • Meticulous Documentation: Document all patient history, vital signs, observations, and treatment plans accurately on digital patient charts.

  • Patient Experience: Create phenomenal member experiences by offering personalized counseling and leading preventive health talks.

  • Protocol Adherence: Embrace and practice medicine using Penda's structured, evidence-based medical systems and protocols.

  • Continuous Learning: Participate actively in continuous professional development (CPD) and peer review sessions to stay abreast of modern medical advances.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Diploma, Higher Diploma, or Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Clinical Medicine and Community Health from an approved institution.

  • Must be fully Registered with the Clinical Officers Council (COC) of Kenya.

  • Possession of a valid, active practicing license for the current year.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of continuous work experience after completing internship in a busy outpatient facility.

  • Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).

  • Excellent clinical acumen, strategic problem-solving abilities, and a deeply caring, customer-centric attitude.

  • Openness to learning, adapting to technology, and functioning effectively within a protocol-driven health system.
