Job Summary
The Research Midwife will support the implementation of clinical research through participant recruitment, screening, and high-quality clinical assessments. Key responsibilities include performing specialized procedures such as retinal imaging (fundoscopy), managing laboratory samples, and ensuring accurate, real-time data entry into REDCap. The incumbent must safeguard participant rights and confidentiality while strictly adhering to study protocols and GCP standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
Pre-screen and screen potentially eligible participants for clinical research studies.
Obtain informed consent, ensuring participant safety and confidentiality are prioritized.
Conduct scheduled study visits and perform detailed clinical assessments.
Perform retinal imaging (fundoscopy) ensuring strict protocol adherence and image quality.
Support laboratory and point-of-care tests, including FBC and OGTT.
Execute real-time data entry and management using REDCap to maintain data integrity.
Maintain source documents and respond to data queries from the research hub promptly.
Schedule upcoming visits and actively follow up with participants to ensure high retention rates.
Identify high-risk clinical cases and facilitate timely referrals and care.
Report adverse events or protocol deviations to the Hub research team immediately.
Mobilize potential participants through collaboration with community health promoters and peer leaders.
Maintain comprehensive study logs, including screening, training, and reimbursement records.
Participate in quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) activities as guided by site SOPs.
Qualifications & Requirements
Diploma in Community Health Nursing (KRCHN), BSc Nursing, or BSc Public Health.
Must be Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) with a valid practicing license.
Minimum 2 years of continuous clinical experience in ANC, Maternity, and Rural health.
At least 1 year of prior experience conducting clinical research, specifically maternal health trials.
Proficiency in REDCap or similar electronic data capture systems.
Valid Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Human Subjects Protection certificates (Highly preferred).
Strong clinical skills with high accuracy and attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Swahili.
