Job Summary
The Laboratory Technologist is responsible for performing accurate laboratory testing and analysis of patient specimens to support disease diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring. This role ensures strict adherence to laboratory protocols and quality control systems to deliver timely, reliable results essential for clinical decision-making. The technologist plays a vital role in maintaining high standards of quality assurance within the hospital's diagnostic services.
Duties & Responsibilities
Perform accurate laboratory testing and analysis of various patient specimens.
Support clinical diagnosis, treatment, and disease monitoring through precise technical procedures.
Ensure rigorous adherence to established laboratory protocols and safety standards.
Maintain and monitor comprehensive quality control and quality assurance systems.
Deliver timely and reliable laboratory results to support rapid clinical decision-making.
Operate and maintain specialized laboratory equipment and diagnostic machinery.
Process patient samples effectively while ensuring proper labeling and storage.
Maintain accurate and detailed records of all laboratory tests and quality control data.
Collaborate with the clinical team to clarify test requirements and communicate critical results.
Manage laboratory inventory and ensure the availability of necessary reagents and supplies.
Uphold strict infection control and medical waste management practices in the lab.
Participate in departmental meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
Identify and troubleshoot any technical discrepancies in laboratory results.
Educate patients on specimen collection procedures when necessary.
Ensure compliance with the ethical guidelines set by the KMLTTB.
Qualifications & Requirements
Degree or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science from a recognized institution.
Must be Registered with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technician and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
Possess a Valid Practicing License for the current year.
Minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience in a busy clinical laboratory.
Proficiency in routine laboratory procedures across different departments (Hematology, Biochemistry, etc.).
Strong knowledge of quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) systems in laboratory practice.
Excellent attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills.
Must be flexible and willing to work on a shift basis, including nights and weekends.
