Job Summary
The Clinical Officer - Emergency Medicine and Critical Care is responsible for providing high-level emergency and critical care services through rapid patient assessment and diagnosis. This role focuses on the treatment of acute and life-threatening conditions, ensuring timely interventions and patient stabilization. The successful candidate will strictly adhere to clinical protocols and patient safety standards to deliver high-quality care in high-pressure settings.
Duties & Responsibilities
Perform rapid and comprehensive clinical assessments of patients presenting with acute or life-threatening conditions.
Diagnose and treat a wide variety of emergency medical cases in a high-volume casualty unit.
Initiate timely life-saving interventions and medical stabilization for critically ill or injured patients.
Manage both Outpatient Department (OPD) and Inpatient care requirements for emergency and critical cases.
Ensure all medical treatments are evidence-based and aligned with international emergency medicine protocols.
Monitor critically ill patients continuously and adjust treatment plans based on clinical recovery.
Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for every emergency consultation and procedure.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, and specialists to provide holistic critical care.
Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding critical diagnoses and treatment outcomes.
Uphold strict patient safety standards and infection control measures throughout the emergency department.
Respond promptly to medical emergencies and participate in advanced life-saving interventions using ACLS and BLS protocols.
Participate in morning rounds and departmental audits to discuss complex critical care cases.
Manage patient flow efficiently to ensure minimal waiting times in the emergency department.
Assist in specialized clinical tasks and procedures as assigned by the medical director.
Ensure compliance with the ethical guidelines set by the Clinical Officers Council of Kenya.
Qualifications & Requirements
Degree in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from a recognized medical training institution.
Higher Diploma in Emergency and Critical Care.
Must be Registered with the Clinical Officers Council of Kenya.
Possess a Valid Practicing License for the current year.
Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience in a high-volume casualty or emergency unit.
Proven experience in both OPD and inpatient care settings.
Must have a Valid ACLS and BLS Training Certificate.
Strong clinical judgment and the ability to make rapid decisions under extreme pressure.
Exceptional communication and teamwork skills for effective collaboration.
Must be flexible and willing to work on a shift basis, including nights and weekends.
