Job Summary

The Health Records & Information Management Assistant II will be responsible for receiving, documenting, and managing patient records and information. This role involves maintaining patient confidentiality, preparing reports, and ensuring all data is accurately captured and stored. The successful candidate will be proficient in computer applications and possess a diploma in Health Records and Information Technology.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Receive and document patients at the hospital reception.

  • Register and book appointments for patients with clinics and consultants.

  • Store and retrieve medical records and documents efficiently.

  • Gather and capture data from various service points.

  • Maintain the safety and confidentiality of all medical records.

  • Prepare daily bed returns.

  • Create and maintain a master patient index.

  • Update the patient master index regularly.

  • Assign codes to diseases and surgical procedures according to the International Classification of Diseases and Procedures in Medicine (ICD).

  • Prepare health records and reports on a monthly basis.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • A Diploma in Health Records and Information Technology from a recognized institution.

  • A current and valid practicing certificate.

  • Membership in a relevant professional body.

  • Proficiency in computer applications is essential.

  • An Association of Medical Records Officer—Kenya (AMRO-K) Certificate is an added advantage.

  • A demonstrated understanding of the values and principles outlined in the Kenyan Constitution, 2010.

  • Must satisfy the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution.
