Job Summary
The Assistant Company Nurse will be a key point of contact for all medical cases on the farm, assisting with the operation of a daily clinic for employees. This role involves providing emergency care, managing medical supplies, and advising management on health and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have a diploma in nursing, a valid license, and experience in a clinical or occupational health setting.
Duties & Responsibilities
Act as a point of referral for all medical cases on the farm.
Assist with the operation of a daily clinic for farm and floriculture employees.
Assist with referring cases to a hospital or doctor as necessary.
Keep stocks of medical supplies and medicines, monitor usage, reorder supplies, and ensure no medication or consumables exceed their expiry dates.
Monitor the monthly cost to the company for employee treatment and adhere to the most efficient treatment channel as directed by General Managers.
Respond to emergency call-outs as required.
Advise management on medical regulations and training/education requirements.
Advise management on health and safety issues and employee welfare.
Ensure occupational first aid kits are in place, well-stocked, and inspected regularly.
Assist with conducting health education for employees.
Arrange for occupational health checks for employees as required.
Upload, update, and maintain digitized employee medical records, including converting existing paper notes.
Ensure all records, histories, and notes are kept in compliance with Data Protection Regulations.
Carry out any other duties as may be assigned by senior management.
Qualifications & Requirements
A Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution.
Must be registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya and hold a valid practicing license.
A minimum of 2–3 years’ post-qualification experience in a busy clinical or occupational health setting (experience in an agricultural, horticultural, or industrial environment is an added advantage).
Proven experience in handling medical supplies and inventory management.
Proficiency in basic computer applications and the ability to manage digitized medical records.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels.
The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
