Job Summary
Under the direction of an Anesthesiologist, the Nurse Anesthetist will provide high-quality, anesthesia-related care to patients before, during, and after medical procedures. The role involves performing pre-anesthetic screenings, monitoring patient responses, managing airways, administering anesthetics, and responding to emergency situations. The ideal candidate is a dedicated professional with a strong clinical background and a commitment to patient safety and quality care.
Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct pre-anesthetic screenings, explaining procedures and risks to patients and/or guardians.
Assess patients’ medical histories to predict their response to anesthesia.
Document preoperative assessments on all patients undergoing anesthesia.
Inform senior medical staff of any patient instability before, during, or after anesthesia.
Monitor patients’ responses, including vital signs like heart rate and blood pressure, using both invasive and non-invasive techniques.
Manage patients’ airway and pulmonary status using techniques such as endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation, and pharmacological support.
Select, prepare, and use equipment, monitors, supplies, or drugs for the administration of anesthetics.
Select, order, and administer anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, fluids, or blood products.
Maintain meticulous records of all observations and anesthesia provided.
Respond to emergency situations by providing airway management and administering emergency fluids or drugs.
Contribute to quality patient care by participating in case planning.
Perform or manage regional anesthetic techniques such as local, spinal, epidural, and nerve blocks.
Evaluate patients’ post-surgical or post-anesthesia responses and take corrective actions as needed.
Discharge patients from post-anesthesia care, providing a comprehensive evaluation to the recovery nurse.
Review patients post-operatively in the ward and address any questions from ward nurses.
Oversee anesthesia equipment in collaboration with the biomedical team.
Qualifications & Requirements
License/Certificate Required: A Nurse Anesthetist certification or equivalent from a recognized institution.
Current licensure or registration as a Nurse.
Minimum Experience Required: At least 3 years of experience in a private or hospital practice.
Experience in a developing country is strongly preferred.
Knowledgeable of all types of anesthesia, equipment, and procedures.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
The ability to handle multiple tasks, establish priorities, and work independently.
The ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships and work as a team member.
The ability to handle confidential information in a professional and appropriate manner.
A strong commitment to following medical ethics and health guidelines.
