Job Summary

The Anesthesiologist will be responsible for providing and overseeing anesthesia for patients requiring surgical intervention. The role includes managing all anesthesia-related care, overseeing the work of nurse anesthetists and officers, and providing oversight for the High Dependency Unit (HDU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and other critically ill patients. A subspecialty interest in pediatric anesthesia is preferred. The successful candidate will perform a variety of duties, including pre-operative assessments, intra-operative management, and post-operative pain control.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Complete and document preoperative anesthesia evaluations for all patients.

  • Review patient charts for all necessary information prior to surgery.

  • Select the safest and most appropriate anesthetic for each patient (general, regional, etc.).

  • Accurately manage fluid resuscitation and blood loss during surgery.

  • Oversee the safe functioning of all anesthesia equipment in collaboration with the biomedical team.

  • Perform various regional anesthesia techniques as required.

  • Assess and implement effective pain management strategies in the post-operative period.

  • Identify and treat intra-operative and post-operative complications promptly.

  • Accurately and thoroughly chart patient data, medications, and fluids administered.

  • Set up all necessary monitors, drugs, and equipment before each procedure.

  • Adhere to all network anesthesia guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Teach and mentor staff on advanced life support, anesthesia, and pain management.

  • Advocate for the patient’s welfare and ensure proper positioning to prevent harm.

  • Maintain competency in anesthesia practice through professional standards.

  • Participate in patient resuscitation when required.

  • Oversee the narcotic count and supply in the operating room.

  • Supervise the work of Anesthesia Technicians, nurses, and officers.

  • Report any unsafe operating room conditions to the Medical Director.

  • Act as a consultant to other anesthesia providers and medical staff.

  • Complete monthly Clinical Quality Improvement (CQI) reports as directed.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Medical degree from a qualified, recognized medical institution.

  • Specialist post-graduation certification in anesthesia.

  • Current licensure to practice medicine.

  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certifications.

  • Subspecialty interest and expertise in pediatric anesthesia is highly preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of all types of anesthesia, equipment, and procedures.

  • Excellent clinical judgment and problem-solving skills.

  • The ability to work under pressure and respond effectively to emergencies.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

  • A deep commitment to ethical practice and patient safety.
