Job Summary

The County Government of Tharaka Nithi is seeking to recruit 2 Registered Nurses to provide comprehensive nursing services. These roles require a Kenyan citizen with a Diploma in Nursing, valid registration, and a practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya. Successful candidates will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care across various health services, including maternal and child health, and contributing to health education initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement nursing interventions, and evaluate patients' outcomes to ensure optimal care.
  • Provide appropriate healthcare services including Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI), which is a globally recognized strategy by WHO and UNICEF aimed at improving the health and survival of children under five. In Kenya, IMCI guidelines are packaged in a chart booklet providing a step-by-step guide for healthcare workers.
  • Provide immunization services, Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV, antenatal care, and delivery services.
  • Provide health education and counselling to patients/clients and the community on identified health needs.
  • Refer patients and clients to appropriate health facilities or specialized units within the facility when necessary.
  • Facilitate patients' admission into the hospital and initiate discharge plans effectively.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records on patients'/clients’ health conditions and the care provided.
  • Ensure a tidy, safe, and hygienic clinical environment for both patients and staff.
  • Coach and mentor nursing students on attachment, guiding them in clinical practice.
  • Organize health management teams and convene health management committee meetings to discuss patient care and operational strategies.
  • Collect and compile data for research on nursing services issues to contribute to evidence-based practice.
  • Any other duty that may be assigned by the supervisor to support departmental goals and patient care.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Be a Kenyan citizen.
  • Be a holder of a Diploma in Nursing from an institution recognized by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • Be registered by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • Possess a valid Practicing License from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • Must be computer literate.
