Job Summary

The Great Lakes Medical Centre is seeking to recruit a Registered Clinical Officer - Anaesthetist to provide specialized anesthesia services. This role requires a professional with a Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine, a valid practicing license, and excellent communication and teamwork skills. The successful candidate will be committed to ensuring patient safety during surgical and other procedures requiring anesthesia.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Administering various types of anesthesia (general, regional, local) for surgical and diagnostic procedures.
  • Conducting pre-anesthetic assessments of patients to determine the appropriate anesthetic plan.
  • Monitoring patients' vital signs and physiological responses throughout the anesthetic period.
  • Managing acute pain during and after surgical procedures.
  • Preparing and checking anesthesia equipment and drugs before use.
  • Maintaining a safe and sterile operating room environment.
  • Collaborating closely with surgeons, nurses, and other theatre staff.
  • Responding to anesthetic emergencies and providing resuscitation.
  • Documenting all anesthetic procedures, patient responses, and drug administration accurately.
  • Participating in post-operative care and follow-up.
  • Providing patient and family education regarding anesthesia and pain management.
  • Adhering to professional standards and guidelines set by the Clinical Officers Council.
  • Contributing to quality improvement initiatives within the theatre department.
  • Utilizing computer applications for record-keeping and administrative tasks.
  • Maintaining knowledge of current anesthesia practices and advancements.
  • Ensuring all equipment is well-maintained and in good working order.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine from a recognized institution (specializing in Anesthesia, implied).
  • Certificate of registration from the Clinical Officers Council.
  • Valid practicing license from the Clinical Officers Council.
  • Proficiency in computer application skills.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to providing high quality care and excellence.
