Job Summary

The Medical/Surgical Nurse (Locum) at Premier Hospital will be responsible for providing high-standard nursing care to all patients, adhering to the Hospital's policies and procedures, and actively working towards achieving patient safety goals. This role requires a dedicated professional who can deliver direct patient care, advocate for patient needs, and collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary team.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing interventions with professionalism.
  • Advocate for patient needs, rights, and preferences, ensuring a patient-centered approach to care.
  • Serve as an expert resource person, providing specialized nursing care and demonstrating advanced clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Engage daily with doctors and other care providers regarding patients’ plans of care and solutions, emphasizing a team-based, problem-solving approach.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate the delivery of comprehensive care.
  • Facilitate effective communication between healthcare professionals, patients, and their families to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure adherence to established standards, policies, and procedures; monitor and evaluate quality of care provided.
  • Administer treatment to patients as prescribed by physicians.
  • Carry out proper patient orientation within the assigned section.
  • Relay accurate information to clinical staff regarding a patient’s condition.
  • Respond to and report any abnormal patient recordings to the person in charge.
  • Respond to emergencies swiftly when they arise.
  • Label and dispatch specimens to the laboratory promptly and safely.
  • Perform routine nursing duties; prepare for and clear the ward before admission and after discharge.
  • Ensure patients' basic needs are met (feeding, bathing, change of linen, etc.).
  • Provide health education to patients to promote overall health and well-being.
  • Maintain proper documentation, accurate records, confidentiality, and conduct thorough handovers between shifts.
  • Identify and address potential risks and hazards in the care environment, implementing preventive measures and promoting patient safety initiatives.
  • Carry out special outpatient clinic activities (maternal, well-baby, OPD).

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution. A degree in nursing will be an added advantage.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a medical-surgical ward.
  • Knowledge in computer applications.
  • Updated BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) training certifications.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Conversant with International patient safety goals.
  • Competent in nursing skills.
  • Reliability and flexibility.
  • Desire for professional development and growth.
