Job Summary

The Great Lakes Medical Centre is looking for a Medical Officer to provide comprehensive medical services to patients. This role demands a professional with a Bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery and a valid license from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board. The successful candidate will be a strong communicator, a team player, and deeply committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough medical examinations and accurately diagnose illnesses and injuries.
  • Develop and implement appropriate treatment plans for patients, including prescribing medications.
  • Monitor patients' progress and adjust treatments as necessary to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Manage patients across various hospital departments, including outpatient and inpatient settings, and conduct ward rounds.
  • Order and interpret laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic tests.
  • Perform minor surgical procedures and emergency interventions when required.
  • Provide health education and counseling to patients and their families on preventive care and disease management.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and confidential medical records and documentation.
  • Collaborate effectively with nursing staff, specialists, and other healthcare professionals for integrated patient care.
  • Respond promptly to medical emergencies within the hospital.
  • Adhere strictly to medical ethics, professional standards, and national guidelines.
  • Participate in continuous medical education (CME) and professional development activities.
  • Contribute to hospital quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs.
  • Utilize computer applications for patient management and administrative tasks.
  • Ensure a safe and hygienic clinical environment for both patients and staff.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) from a recognized institution.
  • License by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
  • Proficiency in computer application skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality care and excellence.
