Job Summary
Aga Khan University Hospital is seeking a Physician Manager for their Adult Accident and Emergency Department. This critical role requires a leader who will ensure the highest standards of emergency patient-centered care, guaranteeing seamless, high-quality, and efficient accident and emergency medical services.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership and guidance on safe and quality patient care within the Accident and Emergency Department.
- Participate in the recruitment, orientation, probation reviews, and disciplinary processes of Senior House Officers (SHOs).
- Responsible for Performance Management and Educational Development of SHOs.
- Provide clinical care to patients, including first contact care, urgent, and emergency care.
- Ensure all doctors are licensed and facilitate the privileging of doctors.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Participate in discussions with relevant members of the clinical care team to enable better integration of patient care activities.
- Work closely with members of the clinical care team to reduce errors and waste, improve skillfulness, and optimize resource utilization.
- Initiate discussions with other consultants and colleagues to enable the integration of clinical key performance indicators, shared knowledge, institutional quality improvement, and enhanced patient outcomes.
- Monitor patient flow and reduce wait times while consistently maintaining care quality.
- Participate in the budget formulation and monitoring for the department.
- Manage the departmental budget and resources efficiently.
- Optimize the use of technological solutions for patient care and administrative functions.
- Ensure the availability of necessary medical supplies and equipment.
- Participate in scholarly activities, including emergency medicine research.
- Participate in the coordination of educational programs within the Accident and Emergency Department involving residents and emergency medicine diplomates.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills Required
- Master of Medicine in Family Medicine or its equivalent.
- Diploma in Emergency Medicine.
- Minimum academic position of Senior Instructor.
- Demonstrated Healthcare Leadership Position – specifically as a Section Head in Emergency Medicine Departments.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Ability to independently prioritize work, strong critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Innovative and good managerial skills.
- Mature demeanor and commands respect among professional colleagues and residents.
