Job Summary
City Health Hospital in Nairobi is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Pharmaceutical Technologist to join their expanding team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and accurate dispensing of medications and providing pharmaceutical services within a friendly and innovative healthcare environment, contributing to the hospital's commitment to public health and patient well-being in the heart of Nairobi.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Dispense medications accurately and efficiently according to prescriptions issued by authorized medical practitioners.
- Interpret prescriptions, verify dosage and route of administration, and identify any potential drug interactions or contraindications.
- Prepare and label medications for dispensing, ensuring accuracy and adherence to pharmaceutical standards.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of dispensed medications, patient information, and inventory levels.
- Manage pharmaceutical stock, including ordering, receiving, storing, and ensuring proper inventory control to avoid shortages and expiries.
- Provide clear and concise information to patients on the proper use, storage, and potential side effects of their medications.
- Compound medications as required, following established procedures and safety guidelines.
- Participate in medication management and safety initiatives within the hospital.
- Collaborate with pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and secure pharmacy environment in compliance with regulations.
- Adhere to all relevant pharmacy laws, regulations, and hospital policies.
- Participate in continuous professional development to stay updated on the latest advancements in pharmaceutical technology and practices.
- Assist in the training and supervision of pharmacy support staff as needed.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the pharmacy department.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Diploma in Pharmacy or a relevant field from a recognized institution.
- Must be registered and licensed as a Pharmaceutical Technologist with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya.
- Proven experience as a Pharmaceutical Technologist.
- Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical principles, practices, and regulations in Kenya.
- Excellent dispensing skills and attention to detail to ensure accuracy.
- Good understanding of drug interactions, contraindications, and adverse effects.
- Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and inventory management skills.
- Proficiency in using pharmacy information systems and basic computer applications.
- Commitment to upholding ethical and professional pharmaceutical standards.
