Job Summary
The In-House Occupational Health Nurse will be responsible for providing immediate care and first aid, managing workplace injuries, conducting health screenings, supporting wellness programs, and ensuring compliance with occupational health regulations within our client's steel plant in Nairobi. This role is crucial in promoting the health and safety of all employees.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide immediate care and first aid for work-related injuries and illnesses, ensuring prompt and effective treatment.
- Assess and manage minor health complaints of employees and refer serious conditions to external medical services as necessary.
- Maintain accurate medical and incident records in strict accordance with legal and company guidelines, ensuring confidentiality.
- Monitor employee health trends and proactively collaborate with the safety team to identify and reduce potential occupational hazards.
- Conduct routine health assessments, including vision tests, and perform pre-employment medical screenings to ensure employee fitness for duty.
- Support return-to-work programs for employees recovering from injuries or illnesses and monitor those on modified duties.
- Develop and implement comprehensive workplace wellness and health promotion programs to encourage healthy lifestyles among employees.
- Educate employees on crucial topics such as health, hygiene, ergonomics, and injury prevention to foster a culture of safety.
- Maintain medical supplies and ensure the first aid station is fully equipped, well-organized, and compliant with regulations.
- Liaise effectively with external healthcare providers and insurance representatives when necessary for referrals, claims, and other related matters.
Minimum Requirements
- Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with a current and valid license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Certification in Occupational Health Nursing is preferred, demonstrating specialized knowledge in the field.
- First Aid and CPR certification is mandatory for providing immediate life support.
- Previous experience in industrial or occupational health settings is required, indicating familiarity with workplace health challenges.
