Job Summary

The Sonographer will be responsible for performing a wide range of ultrasound procedures, including bedside sonography, on our patients. This role involves generating and archiving high-quality images, producing accurate patient reports, participating in routine equipment inspections and quality assurance procedures, and reporting any equipment malfunctions to the appropriate manager in Nairobi.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform all ultrasound procedures, including general, obstetric, gynecological, vascular, and small parts imaging, according to established protocols.
  • Conduct bedside sonography examinations for patients who are unable to be moved to the radiology department.
  • Generate clear, diagnostic-quality ultrasound images and ensure proper archiving in the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
  • Prepare accurate and comprehensive patient reports based on the ultrasound findings.
  • Participate actively in routine inspection and maintenance of ultrasound equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Adhere to quality assurance procedures and protocols to maintain high standards of image quality and diagnostic accuracy.
  • Report any deficiencies or malfunctions of ultrasound equipment promptly to the Chief Consultant Pathologist or relevant manager.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety during ultrasound examinations.
  • Explain the ultrasound procedure to patients clearly and address any concerns they may have.
  • Maintain accurate records of examinations performed and any relevant observations.
  • Adhere to all safety and radiation protection guidelines.
  • Collaborate effectively with radiologists, pathologists, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Participate in continuous professional development 1 activities to enhance skills and knowledge in ultrasonography.  
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information and examination results.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Chief Consultant Pathologist or the management.

Qualifications

  • Higher National Diploma in Ultra Sonography.
  • Diploma in Medical Imaging Science (Radiography).
  • Registration and Valid license from the Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority.
