Job Overview

Position: Nutrition and Dietetics Officer

💰 Basic Salary Scale: Kshs. 39,700 – 52,950 per month
Allowances: As per the SRC circulars attached to the position.

Job Summary

The Nutrition and Dietetics Officer will be responsible for preparing guidelines on therapeutic diets, treating and counseling patients using specialized nutritional products, implementing the nutrition and dietetic process, providing nutrition support in patient management, developing and disseminating nutrition education materials, implementing nutrition health programs, and collecting and compiling nutrition and dietetic data within the health facilities of Nakuru County.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Preparing guidelines on therapeutic diets for existing and emerging diseases for hospital use, home-based care, and other institutions to ensure appropriate nutritional management.
  • Treating and counselling patients using specialized dietetic and nutritionally modified products based on their individual needs and medical conditions.
  • Implementing the nutrition and dietetic process, which includes screening patients for nutritional risks and needs.
  • Assessing patients' nutritional status, formulating appropriate nutrition intervention plans, implementing these plans, and evaluating the outcomes of the interventions.
  • Providing nutrition support in the overall management of patients within health care facilities, collaborating with other healthcare professionals.
  • Developing and disseminating nutrition behaviour change communication, information, education, and communication materials to promote healthy eating habits and disease prevention.
  • Implementing nutrition health programs aimed at improving the nutritional status of individuals and communities.
  • Collecting and compiling nutrition and dietetic data for monitoring, evaluation, and reporting purposes.

Qualifications & Requirements

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines 1 from a recognized institution: Foods, Nutrition and Dietetics, Dietetics/Clinical Nutrition, Food Science and Nutrition, or Home Economics. 
  • A Certificate of Registration by the Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute (KNDI).
  • A Valid practising license issued by the Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute (KNDI).
  • A Certificate in Computer Application Skills from a recognized institution.
