Overall Responsibility
The Medical Oncologist will be responsible for providing expert clinical care to cancer patients within a multidisciplinary team setting, ensuring comprehensive and patient-centered management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive oncology care, encompassing accurate cancer diagnosis, precise staging, and the development of individualized treatment plans.
- Counsel patients and their families with empathy and clarity on their diagnoses, various treatment options, potential side effects, and overall prognosis.
- Diligently monitor patient progress, make necessary adjustments to treatment plans based on response, and effectively manage the side effects of cancer therapies to optimize patient well-being.
- Perform essential diagnostic procedures such as biopsies and bone marrow aspiration to accurately diagnose patients with different types of cancer.
- Provide expert palliative care and effectively manage distressing symptoms for patients with advanced-stage cancer, focusing on improving their quality of life.
- Actively participate in clinical research and clinical trials to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and innovation in oncology care.
- Supervise and ensure the safe and accurate administration of chemotherapy in strict accordance with established protocols and safety guidelines.
- Facilitate seamless access to crucial support services for patients and their families, including counseling, nutritional advice, and rehabilitation programs.
- Provide valuable guidance and mentorship to junior medical staff, nurses, and allied health professionals involved in the multidisciplinary oncology care team.
- Actively participate in training sessions and workshops aimed at continuously enhancing the skills and knowledge of the entire oncology team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from a recognized institution.
- Master’s Degree in Medical/Clinical Oncology.
- Full registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
- Valid Practice License.
- Current Professional Insurance Indemnity Cover.
