Job Summary
The Community Liaison Officer will be the primary point of contact for the community, ensuring they are well-informed about the EARN Trial's progress and activities. This role involves fostering positive relationships, addressing community needs and sensitivities, coordinating outreach programs, conducting health education sessions, and ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines and policies.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary point of contact for the community, ensuring they are consistently informed about the project's progress, upcoming plans, and any relevant updates or findings.
- Help ensure that the project aligns with the community's specific needs and expectations, proactively addressing any potential cultural or social sensitivities that may arise during the trial.
- Map screening locations and actively engage mobile community members to facilitate their participation in screening and follow-up activities, ensuring smooth coordination between the research team, the screening teams, and hospital staff.
- Coordinate comprehensive community eye health outreach programmes, including meticulous planning, logistical arrangements, effective stakeholder engagement, and thorough post-event reporting.
- Conduct engaging health education sessions within communities to raise awareness and understanding about the objectives and importance of the EARN Trial.
- Distribute health education materials that are specifically tailored to the local communities to effectively support community mobilization and enhance awareness about the trial.
- Ensure that all screening, outreach, and research activities strictly comply with public health guidelines, relevant hospital policies, and the requirements set forth by the donor organizations.
- Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including the County and sub-county health departments, Operations Eyesight Universal, Kisii Eye Hospital, and community health promoters, to effectively support outreach efforts and build robust referral networks.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Must possess a Diploma in Public Health, Social Science, or Mass Communication & Journalism.
- Proven experience in coordinating community eye health outreach programmes.
- Sound knowledge of research ethics and good clinical practice.
- Willingness to live in Kisii County and undertake extensive travel within the project area to engage with communities.
Desirable qualities
- Strong community mobilization skills with a proven ability to connect with and engage local populations.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey information to diverse audiences.
- Effective problem-solving skills to address challenges that may arise during community engagement activities.
- Demonstrated skills in project planning and management, including the ability to organize and execute outreach events.
- Strong customer relations management skills with a focus on building trust and positive relationships within the community.
