Job Summary

City Health Hospital in Mombasa is seeking enthusiastic Pharmaceutical Technologists to contribute to various pharmacy operations, including accurate medication dispensing, efficient inventory management, and providing excellent patient assistance. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and accuracy of medication dispensing while delivering quality service to both patients and healthcare providers in a fast-paced pharmacy setting.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense prescription medications accurately and efficiently, adhering to established pharmacy protocols and guidelines.
  • Receive and meticulously review prescription orders, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of all essential patient and medication information.
  • Accurately count, measure, and package medications according to the specific prescription orders and established pharmacy procedures.
  • Label and organize prescription medications clearly and ensure their proper storage and handling according to pharmaceutical standards.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of medications and supplies as needed, diligently following established pharmacy inventory management procedures.
  • Compound non-sterile medications, prepare sterile products under supervision if qualified, and assemble necessary medication kits as required.
  • Enter prescription and patient information accurately and confidentially into the pharmacy computer systems, ensuring data integrity and patient privacy.
  • Provide comprehensive assistance and support to patients, effectively answering their questions about medications, dosage instructions, potential side effects, and storage requirements.
  • Efficiently process insurance claims, manage billing procedures, and handle payment transactions for dispensed prescription medications.
  • Perform essential administrative tasks, including professionally answering phone calls, scheduling patient appointments for pharmacy services, and maintaining accurate patient records.
  • Strictly adhere to all pharmacy regulations, established hospital policies, and standard operating procedures, including all privacy and security protocols to protect patient information.
  • Actively participate in ongoing training and continuing education programs to continuously update knowledge and skills in current pharmacy practice and advancements.
  • Maintain a clean, well-organized, and safe work environment within the pharmacy to ensure the well-being of staff and patients.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • At least 3 years of proven work experience in a fast-paced pharmacy setting, demonstrating the ability to handle a high volume of prescriptions and patient interactions.
  • Possess a Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a reputable and recognized educational institution.
  • Exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively and empathetically with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in all aspects of medication dispensing and record-keeping.
  • Possess a solid knowledge of relevant pharmacy laws, regulations, and professional standards governing pharmaceutical practice in Kenya.
  • Display flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as the operational needs of the pharmacy dictate.
  • Possess a great work attitude and be aggressive with passion and drive for success in providing exceptional pharmaceutical care.
