Job Summary
The Catholic Diocese of Kitale - West Pokot Region is seeking a meticulous and knowledgeable Pharmaceutical Technician/Technologist to accurately dispense medications, provide patient counseling on drug use, maintain pharmaceutical inventory, ensure safe storage of medicines, assist in pharmacovigilance, and support doctors and nurses in medication therapy management. Based in the West Pokot region, the successful candidate will be crucial in providing essential pharmaceutical services to the community served by Ortum Catholic Mission and the new Makutano Dispensary.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Dispense prescribed medications accurately to patients, ensuring correct dosage, form, and labeling according to prescriptions and pharmacy protocols.
- Advise patients clearly and effectively on the proper use of their medications, including dosage instructions, storage guidelines, and potential side effects.
- Maintain proper pharmaceutical inventory records, ensuring accurate tracking of stock levels, expiry dates, and storage conditions, and perform regular stock audits.
- Ensure the safe and ethical storage of all medicines within the pharmacy, adhering to pharmaceutical regulations and hospital policies.
- Assist in pharmacovigilance activities by identifying and reporting any adverse drug reactions or medication errors according to established procedures.
- Support doctors and nurses in medication therapy management by providing relevant drug information and collaborating on patient medication regimens.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Possess a Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized institution; a Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences will be considered an advantageous qualification.
- Must be registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya.
- MUST possess a valid practicing license issued by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya at the time of application and throughout employment.
- At least 1 year of pharmacy experience in a hospital or healthcare setting is preferred, demonstrating practical application of pharmaceutical knowledge and skills.
- Exhibit excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and effective patient education skills to communicate clearly with patients.
- Knowledge of pharmacy software systems used for dispensing and inventory management will be considered a significant plus.
