Job Summary

The Catholic Diocese of Kitale - West Pokot Region is seeking a compassionate and competent Nurse to provide comprehensive nursing care, administer treatments, monitor patient conditions, counsel patients and families, participate in health initiatives, maintain records, ensure infection control, and crucially, possess midwifery experience. Based in the West Pokot region, the successful candidate will be vital in delivering essential nursing and midwifery services to the community served by Ortum Catholic Mission and the new Makutano Dispensary.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients of all ages, including thorough assessment of their needs, development of effective care plans, and evaluation of the outcomes of implemented interventions.
  • Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately according to prescribed orders and established nursing protocols.
  • Monitor patient vital signs regularly and promptly report any significant changes or abnormalities to the appropriate medical personnel.
  • Counsel patients and their families on important aspects of health maintenance, disease prevention strategies, and management of existing health conditions.
  • Actively participate in health campaigns, community immunization drives, and health education sessions organized by the healthcare facilities or the Diocese.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed nursing records of patient assessments, interventions, medications administered, and observations made.
  • Ensure strict adherence to infection control practices to prevent the spread of infections and maintain a safe healthcare environment for patients and staff.
  • Utilize midwifery skills and experience to provide essential care to expectant mothers during pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the postpartum period.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Possess a Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN) or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from a recognized institution.
  • Must be registered and licensed by the Nursing Council of Kenya with a valid practicing license.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of nursing experience in a healthcare setting is preferred, demonstrating practical application of nursing skills.
  • Exhibit a compassionate care approach towards patients and demonstrate strong teamwork abilities to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
  • Hold a certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is preferred.
  • Midwifery experience is a mandatory requirement for this position.
