Job Summary

The Catholic Diocese of Kitale - West Pokot Region is seeking a skilled and compassionate Medical Officer to diagnose, treat, and manage illnesses, perform surgical procedures, lead quality improvement initiatives, supervise clinical teams, participate in community health outreach, and ensure ethical medical practices. Based in the West Pokot region, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in delivering essential healthcare services to the community served by Ortum Catholic Mission and the new Makutano Dispensary.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, treat, and effectively manage a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses affecting patients of all ages within the community.
  • Perform necessary surgical procedures within their scope of practice and expertise, adhering to the highest medical standards and protocols.
  • Lead clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives within the healthcare facilities to continuously enhance the quality and efficiency of patient care.
  • Supervise clinical teams, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to junior healthcare providers to foster professional growth and ensure optimal patient care delivery.
  • Actively participate in community health outreach programs organized by the Diocese to address the broader health needs of the West Pokot community.
  • Ensure strict adherence to ethical medical practices as outlined by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council and all established hospital protocols.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB or equivalent) from a recognized university.
  • Hold full registration and a valid practicing license with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • MUST possess a valid practicing license at the time of application and throughout employment.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ post-internship experience working in a clinical setting is preferred, demonstrating practical application of medical knowledge and skills.
  • Exhibit strong leadership, decision-making, and patient-centered care skills, with a commitment to prioritizing patient well-being.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is considered an added advantage.
