Job Summary
The Chief Accountant – Revenue will be responsible for providing guidance in the formulation and implementation of effective accounting and internal control systems for all revenue activities, ensuring prompt billing and debt collection, and preparing accurate revenue reports.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide guidance in the formulation and implementation of an effective accounting and internal control system for all revenue activities.
- Review revenue policies and procedures periodically to gauge their effectiveness and amend as necessary.
- Ensure prompt billing, preparation of invoices, credit notes, and issuance of receipts.
- Ensure prompt debt collection and timely updates of customers’ ledger accounts.
- Carry out periodic field inspections to obtain assurance of compliance with finance policies and procedures on revenue matters.
- Reconcile billed revenue to remittances from e-Citizen monthly and investigate discrepancies.
- Receive applications for credit facilities and submit them to the Credit Risk Management Committee.
- Provide secretariat services to the Credit Risk Management Committee.
- Enforce the credit control policy.
- Prepare and implement training plans for staff within the revenue section.
- Carry out a quarterly review of debtors’ positions and make recommendations for provisions for doubtful debts.
- Prepare and submit a consolidated monthly revenue report to the Manager Finance.
- Prepare ad hoc revenue reports as required by management.
- Respond to audit, customer, and management queries on revenue matters.
- Serve as an Alternate Bank Signatory to bank accounts.
- Carry out staff supervision and performance evaluation.
- Undertake coaching and mentoring of revenue staff to facilitate smooth succession planning.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Manager Finance.
Qualifications & Requirements
- A minimum of ten (10) years’ work experience in Finance or a related field, three (3) of which must be in a supervisory role.
- Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting, Finance option, Business Administration (Finance or Accounting option), or equivalent.
- Master’s degree in Business Administration (Finance or Accounting option) or equivalent.
- Passed Part III of the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) examination or equivalent.
- Membership in good standing with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) or an equivalent professional body.
- Certificate in Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks.
- Demonstrated merit and ability in work performance.
- Proficiency in Computer Applications.
