Job Summary

The Research Assistant Nurse will support the iMAMA/SmartSweep study by screening and recruiting participants, obtaining informed consent, and collecting clinical and non-clinical data. A key component of this role involves performing basic ultrasound procedures using AI-driven technology. The incumbent must ensure ethical data handling and maintain a professional, sensitive attitude toward participants and their families in compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

Key Responsibilities

  • Participant Recruitment: Liaise with facility staff to identify, screen, and recruit eligible participants, ensuring proper informed consent is obtained.

  • Data Collection: Collect clinical and non-clinical data, including anthropometric measurements and vital signs, using mobile data collection tools.

  • Specialized Procedures: Perform basic ultrasound procedures (AI-POCUS) as per study protocols (training provided).

  • Follow-up & Retention: Conduct post-visit follow-ups with participants to ensure data completion and study retention.

  • Reporting: Create accurate daily and monthly summary reports of all research activities for the study coordinator.

  • Community Engagement: Act as the face of the study, communicating effectively with families and community members regarding study objectives.

  • Ethical Compliance: Handle all study data and equipment with the utmost confidentiality and care, adhering to institutional policies and SOPs.

  • Financial Oversight: Manage participant reimbursements and maintain accurate records in compliance with AKU financial guidelines.

  • Clinical Contribution: Contribute to general clinical care at the respective healthcare facility as required.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Diploma in Nursing (KRCHN, KRN/M, or equivalent).

  • Valid Practicing License from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a busy health facility (Maternity, ANC, or Child Health units).

  • Prior experience in clinical research at the community or facility level is highly desirable.

  • Experience with mobile data collection tools and basic computer literacy (MS Office).

  • Fluency in written and verbal English and Kiswahili.

  • Ability to perform shift work, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
