Job Summary
The Nurse In-charge (Covering Role) is responsible for the overall management of a ward or unit during assigned shifts. This role focuses on coordinating nursing staff, allocating duties, and ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality care. The incumbent will supervise clinical procedures, manage escalations, and ensure strict compliance with hospital policies and NCK standards. Immediate availability is a significant advantage for this short-term leadership engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Take overall charge of the ward or unit during assigned shifts to ensure operational continuity.
Coordinate nursing staff and allocate duties effectively based on patient acuity and staff competency.
Oversee the delivery of safe, high-quality, and patient-centered nursing care.
Supervise medication administration and the execution of complex clinical procedures.
Manage clinical incidents, handle escalations, and lead comprehensive shift handovers.
Ensure full compliance with hospital policies, nursing protocols, and NCK standards.
Liaise professionally with doctors, specialists, and other hospital departments as required.
Monitor unit resources and ensure the availability of essential medical supplies.
Provide leadership and support to the nursing team, fostering a collaborative work environment.

Qualifications & Requirements
Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognized training institution.
Must possess a Valid Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) license.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant clinical experience.
Prior 2 years of experience in a supervisory or in-charge role is an added advantage.
Strong leadership, decision-making, and communication skills.
Ability to work flexible shifts at short notice.
Immediate availability will be considered a strong added advantage.
