Job Summary
The Lecturer in Obstetrics/Gynecology is responsible for teaching and assessing medical courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This role involves supervising student research, participating in curriculum development, and initiating high-impact research projects that contribute to the university’s academic standing. The successful candidate will be a highly disciplined professional capable of managing departmental activities and fostering community linkages.
Duties & Responsibilities
Teach and assess specialized courses in medical physiology and Obstetrics/Gynecology to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Provide high-level supervision for postgraduate students engaged in advanced research and clinical studies.
Initiate, promote, and lead original research projects that align with the university’s mission of academic excellence.
Actively attend and participate in relevant seminars, workshops, and international conferences to disseminate knowledge.
Participate in the strategic planning and development of curricula within the department to meet modern medical standards.
Implement and evaluate departmental curricula to ensure effectiveness and relevance to the labor market.
Attend and contribute to Departmental and School Board meetings and other administrative activities.
Conduct meaningful community service and initiate professional linkages with external organizations.
Develop and write successful grants and fundraising proposals to support departmental research and growth.
Engage in adept lesson planning and maintain an excellent command of the subject area.
Adopt and integrate new technological changes into the teaching and research process.
Prepare detailed presentation and research writing materials for academic publication.
Maintain high levels of discipline and self-motivation in all official university duties.
Manage academic ambiguity and emotional dynamics within the student and faculty population with mediation skills.
Execute any other official duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor or immediate supervisor.
Qualifications & Requirements
A relevant Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a recognized University.
A Master’s degree or its equivalent in Obstetrics/Gynecology or a relevant field is mandatory.
A PhD in a relevant discipline is highly preferred and will be considered an added advantage.
Must be registered by the relevant professional body (e.g., KMPDC).
Possess a valid practicing license and satisfy the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Kenyan Constitution.
Previous teaching experience in a university or clinical setting is preferred.
Proficiency in computer skills and adaptability to digital learning platforms.
Excellent communication, listening, and mediation abilities.
Demonstrated strength in fundraising and grant writing.
Outstanding presentation and research writing skills.
